Links to Excel from a Mac
I have an excel file that is very large and it is a template that I
use often. Instead of emailing the file around I have it set to send a link to the file location. The first person to receive teh email is a Mac user. Enourage shows as a link, but it will not open the file. All other PCs can open the file from the email if they are the first people it is sent to. After the Mac user sends on the email to the next person the link can not be followed by the PC users. Any help woudl be greatly appreciated. I would like everyone to be able to open the file from the link. Thanks, Jay |

I suspect that Enourage is getting confused and then adding to the confusion.
I'm not a Mac user, nor do I have experience with Enourage, so I'm just guessing here. But I suspect that Enourage/Mac is unable to deal with the link in Windows format, but somehow manages to change it to Mac format before sending it on to the next (non-Mac) person. Mac, I believe, uses a colon as folder/path separator, while Windows is using the backslash character. You need to look at the format of the link after the Mac user has received it and passed it on to someone else to really begin to get a clue on this - unless of course, a Mac/Windows user comes along and straightens it all out here. You might refer to this page for more info on this kind of thing: http://www.portfoliofaq.com/pfaq/FAQ00352.htm Look at Note #2 about 1/4 of the way down the page. But there are many opportunities for confusion in a link between Mac OS and Windows. "jlclyde" wrote: I have an excel file that is very large and it is a template that I use often. Jay -
Some of the Windows-to-Mac problems are sometimes solved by (a) having the Mac user launch Excel and use Excel's menu to load the xls file and (b) sending the file in zip format so that it doesn't get modified by the email client. But since you want a click-the-link solution, I recommend posting in the very active microsoft.public.mac.office.excel newsgroup . - Mike http://www.MikeMiddleton.com "jlclyde" wrote in message ...
