convert xml to xls background

Does anyone know how to convert an XML spreadsheet (in Excel format) to a
standard XLS spreadsheet in batch? We have a batch program that creates XML
spreadsheets, but they are too large. Would like to run some sort of batch
command that would take these XML files and just save these files in standard
XLS format (not XML).
