Problem with inserting diacritics / special signs

Hi, on my PC I have installed 3 languages (2 Slavic plus English). When I
create formulas, I usually switch to English to be able to type all of these
#$^&:;". When I attempt to insert following signs: ^ " (power sign and/or
quotation sign), usually they are not visible immediately. They appear only
after hitting another key (whatever one, which then I need to delete, or
after hitting spacebar). Does anybody know how can I fix this problem? I know
this is rather not "Excel question", but I really like the forums here and
rely on somebody's smart advice. Thanks in advice.

This may or may not help you -- I don't have the setup to test it -- but it
is possible to enter those characters without using the keyboard with Excel
2003. I saw this in somebody else's previous post to this newsgroup.

The idea is to have buttons in a toolbar that can be clicked with a mouse
instead of typing. That way, perhaps you can avoid switching to English for
those characters.

To get started:
- Right-click on the tool-bar area and click "customize."
- Click on the Commands tab.
- In the left column, select "Insert"
- In the right column scroll down about half way.
The right column should show "=" "+" and other math symbols. These can be
dragged one by one to toolbars. I added a "Math" toolbar to hold them.

If that doesn't work, maybe you could add "Auto-correct" items to avoid
switching keyboards; for example, set up
,4,
To auto-correct to
$

Problem with inserting diacritics / special signs

Hi, I would rather still seek to fix my keybord to bring me proper signs
instead of creating additional buttons in toolbar or choosing the proper sign
from table of specials signs. In Excel 2007 I keep only quick access toolbar
permanently visible with as few buttons there as possible to save space in
working area. But maybe I will add some more buttons to avoid troubles with
typing.
I do not think about setting auto-correct options at the moment.
Thanks for your concern, anyway.

Hi, I would rather still seek to fix my keybord ...

Since the keyboard issue is not specific to Excel, you might have better
luck in a windowsxp newsgroup (or whichever OS version you use).

Hi Alojz
If you want, you can type those symbols by pressing and holding the ALT key and
on the numeric keypad typing numbers.here is a small list
Alt=034 is " Alt-036 is $ Alt-038 is & Alt-039 is ' Alt-040 is (
Alt-041 is ) etc...etc..just explore the list yourself.
If you use often certain symbols, you'll memorize then easily.

U r right, I did place it here just because I follow discussion about Excel
the most. The bug is not critical to me, I just tried, if somebode is
familiar with the issue here. Do not worry about it too much, thanks for
trying help.

John, thank you, too, for trying. Sure ASCII codes may do their work, yet not
exactly what I am looking for. I appreciate yours and MyVeryOwnSelf attempt
and would like to grant you both with at least half of helping mark. It's
nice to see somebody else's concern of problems which are posted by guy you
do not know personally.
