I get a disk full message when saving large excel file.
Everyone else on the network can save it just fine but I get a disk full
message. I can only save it to my hard drive and then transfer it to the network drive to be shared. I defraged and am going to do a disk cleanup and add more ram. I hope that works? |

When xl2003 and older saves the file, it saves it as a temporary file with a
funny name (8 characters--no extension) in the same folder. If the save is successful, xl will delete the original (or rename it to its backup name (like "backup of book1.xlk)) and if that's successful, xl will rename the funny named file to the original's name. So there could be a small moment of time where you need (approximately) twice the size of the original file. If you don't have that available on the network drive, then this could be the problem. On the other hand, if you have tons of space available, I'd recommend that you talk to your IT staff and explain the problem to them. Maybe it's some sort of network problem -- even hardware????
