make cell equal a word if a data validation cell has a word in it
 

I have 2 data validation cells I want the second cell to equal certain words
in the list if the first data validation cell is selected to certain words.
the key is there are a lot of names in the first list but I would like to
have it use a common word with all the names like mr or mrs to change the
second data cell instead of reffering to the whole name.

Sounds like you want second list items to be dependent upon the first list
selection.
