group and show detail in pivot tables
 

hello,

i tried the group and show detail feature in pivot table and I get the
message "cannot group that selection". I tried some remedies like ensuring
that there were no blanks or text in the date column but did not work; i made
a colleague try it on his computer using the same data set and he is able to
perform this feature? is there some setting that I need to turn on??

i also find that after I format the date column in the raw data tab; it does
not carry-over that format to the pivot table report; the pivot table
defaults to the orginal date format dd/mm/yyyy; and does not allow me to
group it into a month/year format

any advice on how to overcome this problem?
