Excel in Two instances

Hi All,

Is is okay if I open two excel files in two different instance? Is
there a chance that, any registry files related to the excel
application will get corrupted? Please advice.

Hi,

Do you mean that opening two files one after the other if yes, that should
not be a problem. What do you want to say by registry files?

You shouldn't have any problems.

You may get a warning message that any file that's already open in the first
instance will have to open in readonly mode in the second.

I wouldn't fiddle with any toolbars/ribbon controls/QAT. I'm not sure which
changes would be remembered (last instance closed may win????).

And if you fiddle with settings, you may find that those settings stored in the
registry aren't what you expected (I'm not sure which settings would be saved,
either.)

But these should cause any corruption.

Personally, I don't like doing this. It makes it harder to copy stuff between
workbooks (in different instances).

If you're gonna do this because you have multiple monitors, you may want to
review Chip Pearson's notes:

In general, you should have no problems. However, some actions do
change registry entries, so those changes in one instance will be
reflected in the other instance. COM Add-In load behaviors come to
mind, but I'm sure there are others.
