Default Excel 07 Sort & Filter A to Z

I'm brand new at 07 and I'm having trouble sorting rows from A-Z. It's
giving me the error "This operation requires the merged cells to be
identically sized". As far as I can see they are. I've never had this
problem before, but then again all I have been using up until this point is
Excel 97. I'm very confused with this new version.

Thanks,
Tia

I am reasonably sure you would get the same problem in Excel 97 too.

There are merged cells somewhere in your sort range...

For example if you sort Col A and B upto row 100... if in any row Col A & B
are merged then you will get the error message you are getting...
You can test it by merging Cell A3 and B3 and then try to sort A1:B10 or
something like that.

You need to find the merged cell, unmerge it and you will be able to sort.

You have merged cells in the range to be sorted.

You can remove the "mergedness" and then your sort will work like you want. But
the merged cells won't be merged anymore.

If that's ok, then select the range.
Rightclick anywhere in that selection
Select Format cells|alignment tab|uncheck Merge cells

Then do the sort.
