Default How to restore color formats to spreadsheets in Excel 2003?

Extensive color formats in Excel workbooks disappears and the paint tool does
not work. For no reason, after several days, the colors all reappear. I've
tried downloading updates from Microsoft download site including Svc. Pk. 3

It they come back then this looks like a display issue (less memory?).

Try to print a page (if you have a color printer) and see whether it prints
Ok when you don't see anything on the screen.
