Using Filter function with shared workbook

I have a shared workbook with protected sheets. I am trying to filter a
column of information. When I click on the arrow in the header it does not
bring up the dialog box for me to choose what to filter on. How can I make
this work?

You should select "Allow Filtering" option in the "Protect Sheet" dialog box.
