ben working to hard for too long, and thus fell like my brain is
melting (like the Evil Witch) ...

so ...

can i, and if so, how, programmatically define a SAS variable's
length?

i've symput'd a number and have been trying to use that in a SAS
length statement proper

am i missing something?
