Compatability Mode

When I open a new Excel 2007 worksheet, it has only 65,536 rows and
256 columns. The title of the worksheet says "(Compatability Mode).

How do I open a true Excel 2007 worksheet with 1+ million rows and
16,000+ columns?

Compatability Mode

This typically happens when you open a XLS (Excel 97-2003) file...

Try to SAVE AS Excel Workbook (*.xlsx) ...

Probably you are carrying over (from Excel 2003) your default personal.xls,
book.xlt, sheet.xlt ... which dictate your default workboo/worksheet to open
in compatibility mode.
