When I format a cell using any of the shading or pattern commands I cannot
see the result. When I select print preview I can see the fomatting, it also
prints properly. How do I view formatting within the spreadsheet view?

Hi,

what version of Excel are you using? If you format a cell with black fill -
you are still able to see the font? When you say shading, what exactly do
you mean - a fill color? If so does it make any difference what color you
pick?

Please take us through the exact steps you are doing -
choose Format, Cellls, Patterns, pick a color, (which color?), open the
Pattern drop down and pick a pattern (which one?), pick a pattern color
(which one?)

Cheers,

Check this out................

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=833258

The fill color, the fill pattern, or the line color of a WordArt or
AutoShape object in an Office document does not change

As directed, change the High Contrast setting in Windows OS
