Copying from one workbook to another

I want to copy data from a cell in one workbook into another. I've typed an
equal sign (=) into the target cell, switch to the other workbook, select the
cell with the data I want to copy, then click enter. Sometimes it works, but
other times the only thing that shows up in the target cell is the name of
the workbook, cell, etc. of the workbook I'm trying to copy data from. Help,
please!!!

Hi,

It sounfs like those cells for which it doesn't work are formatted as text
before you enter the formula. Select one of those cells and format as general
then tap F2 & enter.

Hi Mike,

What does the F2 and enter do?

Mike,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Perhaps I didn't
articulate my problem well: I have the name of an organization, the org's
address, phone number, etc. in separate cells in one workbook. When I use the
equal sign to copy the data in those cells into the target workbook, I get
the data I want for address, phone number, etc., but not for the
organization's name. All of the cells in both workbooks are formatted the
same. This is a real head-scratcher.

Gilbert,

On it's own reformatting as general changes nothing so tapping F2 puts you
into edit mode in that cell and pressing enter re-enters the formula.
