Default Error: "Cannot shift objects off sheet."

i have been sent workbook that appears to have some problems which i guess
might be in the area of security.
If i do a cut and paste or insert columns it gives me the message above.
I have done three things around the security issues as follows but to no
avail:
1 i have selected the sheet and from format menu = cells (and unchecked the
two boxes locked and hidden - they were not checked anyway.
2 i have selected options, security from the tools menu and made sure
nothing is checked (it was not)
3 i have tried saving as to a newly named workbook and clicked the drop down
menu called tools on the save as dialogue box and selected "general options"
and made sure nothing selected re passwords or protection.

can anybody help me pls.

hi bob,
thanks for the tip.
i used the second link since i have excel 2003. the link was particularly
pointing to issues with embedded comments. (the workbook came from someone
else and i am not used to comments but this workbook was full of them! i
found and just deleted them all. this appears to have fixed the problem.
thanks again bob.
