Excel 2000 with Compatibility Pack can't Save As Excel 2007 docume
I have a user who is using Excel Services with MOSS who needs to modify a
workbook and save it back to MOSS. The user only has Excel 2000, and Excel Services requires the workbook to be in Excel 2007 format. I've installed the compatibility pack and we are able to open the Excel 2007 workbook (opens as a Read-Only file "Xl0000001" workbook). However, when I try a Save As... there is no Excel 2007 format in the "Save As Type" combo box. If I open Word and open Save As..., I see the Word 2007 formats. If I open Excel (by itself) and open Save As..., I do not see the Excel 2007 formats. Is there an issue with the compatibility pack? Carl. |
Excel 2000 with Compatibility Pack can't Save As Excel 2007 docume
Don't worry, I figured it out.
I had read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924074 many many times, but finally I found I was misreading the instructions. Seems you do not use the Save As within Excel at all, but you save the workbook as Excel 97-2003 to the file system. Then in Explorer you right click and save as. That's really counter intuitive (especially since Word works what I would consider the "right" way). I'm surprised Microsoft didn't make this clearer in their documentation.
