Hyperlinks
 

I put a hyperlink to a .PDF file in a cell. When I click it, the file
appears to open, but closes right away. How can I keep it open? Thanks for
any help you can provide.

Hi Tom,
If you are using the Adobe Reader (formerly Adobe Acrobat Reader) check
that you are version 7.0, if not upgrade at
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
or follow the links from the adobe.com home page.

I've seen what you mention, probably in Internet Explorer.
It is much better to NOT have your browser open the reader within
the browser, but to directly open a PDF file with the Reader..

Thanks, David. I'm using v7 of Adobe Reader, and my browser, IE6, isn't, or
at least shouldn't, be involved in opening the file. Hyperlinks to other
document types (.doc, .txt, etc.) work fine. It's just those $%^&*( .pdf
files that behave badly. I'm really scratching my head over this
one............

Hi Tom,
I thought I had Adobe Reader v7 installed, but it looked like
it was only v6. So I installed v7 (I selected Win 2000 SP 2,
but my SP is 4 according to Windows Help) it was a 12.2 MB download it was 42 MB
installed and with it installed I can't read PDF files from
anywhere. Hmmm does seem like something is wrong.

That was a waste of time.

I see several postings in other newsgroups about v6 being a clunker
and v7 not working on older documents. One said they were back
to v5 and would use v6 from the desktop for a few rare documents
that they can't use v5 for. And I uninstalled and deleted those thinking
that was part of the problem when I installed 7.0 and it did not work.

I had Adobe Reader 5.1 in my downloads, reinstalled it and even
though I plug-ins being copied it is up and running with no need to
reboot (!!!!!), and invoking from both Firefox or IE but is bypassing
the plugins and opening by the file types default of the Acrobat Reader
which is a lot faster.

I also still have the download for Adobe Reader 6 should I need it
and will not uninstall 5.1 if I need 6.
