Switching from 2003 to 2007

Hello everyone,
I need to buy an excel version and 2007 is obviously the newest. But my
concern is that I will need to be able to open and work on excel sheets that
were created in both Excel 2003 and Excel for Mac. Will the 2007 version
support both? Thanks!

Yes it does but I would not recommend buying it unless you are in dire need
of
the new functionality introduced in 2007. I have both but I am using only
2003. Only when I
do support on 2007 do I use it. If you are intermediate or above chances are
that it will
slow down your productivity (at least for about 70% who do the switch) There
are some improvements but
IMHO not worth upgrading for. It is extremely un-customizable, only by using
3rd part applications can you change the interface. Functions easily found
in previous versions take extra clicks to get to, if you can find them.

I know there are some people that like it but the overwhelming majority that
I know of do not like it.

It supports Excel 97-2003... I don't know about Mac but I am sure it does.

It does have a steep learning curve though... It takes time to get used to
the new ribbon interface...

Is it possible to still download and purchase the 2003 version?

Why?

There is a huge price difference?

Unless you get the student version the standard version of 2007 is over
$300.00

Whereas you can buy 2003 for less than 100.

Well that's nice of Microsoft to forget about the people at the Junior
College level. Most JCs dont have e-mail setup for students and now that
universities are so expensive thats where most people are starting out
