I have inherited a speedsheet where the whole first row, every column has a
drop down list. Even if i add a try to inserta column it has a drop down list
automatically in the first row. I want to either edit it and get rid of it,
or be able to insert a column without the dropdown. Any thoughts?

What you have is "Autofilter" turned on. To remove it, simply be in any cell
of a column with the drop down lists; from the DATA menu, choose FILTER then
AUTOFILTER. This will remove the filter and drop downs for you.

Insert the column then select cell 1 of that column.

DataValidationClear All

DO NOT checkmark "apply these changes to all cells with the same settiings"

Or select a blank column outside the range.

Hold SHIFT key and hover mouse cursor below header to get a 4-headed cross.

Drag across to insert point and drop.

This column will not have the DV dropdown.

Doh! Assumed the dropdowns were DV lists.

See Bob's reply.
