Adding Time Values in HH:MM Format

I would be really grateful if someone could offer some assistance.

I am in the process of creating a time recording spreadsheet. I have
formatted cells B5:B9 using the time cell format: HH:MM. In cell B10 I wish
to have a calculation which will total the number of hours worked. How do I
do this?

I find the problem is that if I were to add 03:45 and 00:30 this would come
to 03:75 instead of the required result of 04:15.

I'd be really grateful if someone could offer some help of advice.

Many thanks,

Simon.

Format the formula cell using the custom format.

In the list of number formats scroll down until you locate CUSTOM and in the
type listbox locate the format that looks like the following:

[h]:mm:ss

SiH23,

When you are typing into the cells are you typing exactly, "3:45" and
"0:30"? What does the formula bar state? Secondly, could you describe the
exact Time/Date format used, is it custom?

I used the "3:45" and "0:30" method, and added B5 + B6 to return "4:15".

Are you sure you're entering times into those cells.

I could get the same error if I entered numbers in those cells, but used a
custom format of:
00\:00
or
00":"00
so that they looked like times.
