Can't copy formulas in a worksheet

Something happened. Now I can't copy and paste a formula from one cell to
another in my worksheet??? It only want's to paste text.
Even with paste special, I have lost the old dialog box and have a new one
that only allows pasting text.

Are you copying and pasting between workbooks perhaps. If so then check to
see if the workbooks are in seperate instances of XL. That would cause the
behavior you are describing...

No. I am copying from one cell in a column to the next cell in the column.
I only get the value from the previous cell (not the new value computed from
the new column with the copied formula. Also no formatting is copied.
Thanks for your speedy response.

Didn't say that quite right. Should have said "copying from one cell in a
column to the adjacent cell in the next column"

That is very odd. Can you drag the formulas? Can you select paste special?
Can you copy and paste via Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V?

I'm using Excel 2003. Have been an Excel user since it first came out.
No. Can't drag the formulas.
When I select paste special it gives me two options: paste as text or paste
as unicode text. Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V do the same as the menu bar and the right
mouse menu.
I noticed this problem on two existing spreadsheets today that I've been
using for months. I also tried creating a simple new little spreadsheet but
got the same problems.

I can only think of a few possibilities:
1) Did I accidentally click some strange Excel setting?
2) Is my copy of Excel corrupted?
3) Is this some sort of virus?
