Frustrating options in Excel vs 2003
 

I'm new in my company and I'm using last years spreadsheet to work up next
years budget. I've downloaded the numbers from our accounting database but
Excel is converting formulas to numbers. I can't seem to ask the question
right to get help in turning off this feature. Is anyone familiar with the
options to help me? This company is still using Excel 2003

Enter ' before the = in the formula... this converts them into text

Or if you just want to see what formulae are there then press CTRL-~ to
toggle between seeing the formulae and their results...

You should be real happy that they don't use Excel 2007, Excel 2003 is
adequate and definitely much better than 2007.
What do you mean when you say that it converts formulas to number, give an
example?

I'm sorry to get back to you so slowly!

What I want the formula to do is annualize a YTD figure. To do that, I'll
add the formula and it will calculate the answer, such as YTD August/ 35
weeks x 52 weeks. when I open the spreadsheet again, the formula will be
gone and the hard coded answer will be in its place. I want to keep the
formula because we may want to use 'what-if's' to estimate the future.

I'm thinking there must be some option that I need to select or de-select so
that the worksheet will do what I want instead of modifying itself.

I will give that a try!

The problem that I'm having is that I'll enter a mathematical formula to
annulize an account and the next time I go back into the spreadsheet, the
formula is gone and a hard coded number is in its place. I want to keep the
formula because it shows the thought process and allows us to create a
'what-if' scenarios with a budget.
