Cell not formatting date correctly.
 

All cells in my worksheet have a maroon interior color and white text. When
I print the worksheet, I print it in Black and White only to avoid printing
in color. I have cells in a column that represent a shipping date that uses
the Date format: "9/14/08". I want to put some sort of indicator in the cell
that tells the user that the shipping date is late. For example, if the
shipping date is late then display "9/14/08*". This is the problem, it
displays "9/14/2008*", why?

Remember I can't use a different interior color as an indicator, because I
print in black and white only. Unless there is a way to print the
"indicated" cells color and the rest in black and white only.

Are you manually typing in that asterisk? If so, the date will display
in the formula bar as 9/14/2008 even if you display it without the
century year, so if you just add * to whatever is in there the date
appears expanded.

Can't you insert a narrow column next to the date so that you can just
add your asterisk to that column, without changing any of the data?

How are you getting the * indicator in the cell desired cells. Assuming that
you are open to suggestions why not use conditional formatting with Bold
Italics or such... If you want to stick with the astrics you could place the
astrics in an adjacent column. Format the column with maroon lettering on a
maroon background so that the astrics will only show when it is printed...

I'm not sure how you're getting that "*" in there? Here's a suggestion. Add a
column after the date column. Make it a "thin" column so that the cells look
like checkboxes. If the shipping date is late, then fill in the column with a
solid color, pattern, etc. Otherwise, leave the "checkbox" vacant.
