Vlookup and sorting

I am trying to sort a table that uses Vlookup to fill accross.
(we type in column A and B, and columns C-F use Vlookup)
When i highlight my columns (1 thru 800) accross to sort alphabetically, the
sort buttom is shaded out and cannot be used. I know i had this problem in
the past, and there was a work around. But for the life of me tonight, i
cannot figure it out.
Any help would so appreciated!
Thanks

Is the worksheet protected?
Do you have multiple sheets grouped together?

Grouped means more than one sheet selected.

Do you see [Group] in the title bar?

(I still don't have any other guesses no matter what your answer is though.)
