I have overwritten an excel file. Is there anyway to go back to that first
version of the file?

Only if you have it backed up some place. Did you email it? Move it to
another machine via flash drive, CD, floppy, intranet? Was it saved to a
server? Other than a back up, once it is overwritten it is gone! Sorry!

Probably not, unless you have a backup of the file or have a shadow-copy
turned on.

Any chance you e-mailed the file to anybody as an attachment - thus an
older copy might be in your Sent Items folder?
