I have been given 130 numbers and I need to find out which of them can be
added up to a given number. for example, if given 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and i need to find out which of them adds up to 33. is there anything excel can do? pls help |

What kind of numbers are we talking about here? Real numbers? Integers? Positive? What is the given number? If the given sum is a big number, compared to the given numbers, there will be very many combinations to test. But if the given sum is in the same magnitude as the 130 numbers there will only be very few of them included in the sum. Lars-Åke |

the given 130 numbers are the amount for transactions from sales: for example: $55.07, $26.25 etc I am given a sum for $5250 and I need to find out how many transactions can be added up equals to the total $5250. Your problem is going to be too large to solve. The posted code is extremly
good and works up to about 50 numbers in a reasonable period of time. But with a list of 130 item the amount of time it will take to solve will be staggering. The amount of time it takes to run increases exponentially with each addition value included in the set... to run the attached code place the code in a standard code module (what you get when you record a macro). Now just runt it lake any other macro Tools - Macros -findsums -- HTH... If interested: If given the integer numbers 1,2,...130, then there are 4,654,670 combinations that total 130, and 486,796,713 that total 200.
