07 Custom style does display banded column styles in preview
 

You can create a new table style with a first or second column format. But I
cannot get the column format to display in the custom styles example. And I
cannot get the column format to apply to the table by default. I have to
click Banded Columns in the Table - Design tab.

Is there a way to make Banded Columns the default?
