If the file is on a network drive your administrator may be able to help you.
Otherwise the file is owned by the operating system and the XL file has no
say in whether it gets deleted or not...

Remember that the System Admin will be able to do just about anything. And
he/she will be able to get the permission needed if he or she needs it.

You need to use the windows explorer, find the file, and right click on it
and select the security tab. Then select yourself and set the permissions
accordingly, setting deny delete for anyone else.

There may be other considerations.

Seriously consider reposting in another newsgroup under Windows security and
ask the gurus there.

Practice first. Also, you did not indicate if this is on a workstation or
on a network shared drive. Makes a difference.

Consider moving the file to your My Documents folder where only you can get
at it, if only you need it.

Not really.

You could ask your IT Staff to put it on a network share that the users only
have readaccess to. But they won't be able to update it either.

If it's only used as a reference (closed without saving), then it might work ok.

But remember to ask the IT staff to allow you read/write/delete rights--and
maybe a few trusted co-workers (when you're out of the office???).
