Im trying to make a excel sheet with conditional formatting... I want to
higlight a cell red if there is nothing in another cell... how would i go about this? |
Conditional Formatting
Move to the cell on the worksheet where you want to start conditional
formatting. Click FORMAT in the menu and select CONDITIONAL FORMATTING. In the CONDITION1 combo box, chage VALUE IS to FORMULA IS. To the right of the combo box enter the following formula, substituting A1 with the cell address you're currently assigning the format to: =A1="" Click the FORMAT command button and click the PATTERNS tab and select the color you want if the cell is empty. Click the OK command button 2 times to exit. then copy cell A1 down the column as far as necessary. -- Kevin Backmann "TxcPhtm" wrote: Im trying to make a excel sheet with conditional formatting... It shouldn't make a difference but at the moment I do not have access to a PC
with 2007 on it, I'm at work on an XP/Office 2003 PC. Sorry... -- Kevin Backmann "TxcPhtm" wrote: Im using Excell 2007 if that makes a dif and it is just keeping it red "Kevin B" wrote: Move to the cell on the worksheet where you want to start conditional formatting. Conditional Formatting
Go to Conditional Formatting - New Rule - and then it is the last option "Use
a formula to determine which cells to format" then do as Kevin B has instructed. Excel will automatically apply absolute references (eg $A$1) to both the cell it is evaluating for the condition and the cells that is it applying the format that you have set to, adjust these from the "Manage Rules" option until you get the desired result.
