Default Equations appear as text

I have an old spreadsheet that I am now using with Excel 2007. My problem is
that when I enter an equation in a cell the equation appears as text such as
=b784 instead of the value of the contents of cell B784. This is making me
crazy.

Please help! Thanks.

Suspect that cell was pre-formatted as TEXT (unknown to you)
Try re-formatting it to either general/number, then re-trigger the formula
by clicking inside the formula bar, press ENTER
(Above are steps I'd do in my xl03. Do equiv. steps in your xl07)
