I wan't to insert a row eg. between row 27 and row 28, but what happens now
is that the new row gets all the formatting of row 28 (borders etc) and I
want to new row to get the formatting of row 27 and not 28. XP Excel 2003

If you want a row between 27 and 28... then go on the 28th row.... get your
cursor on the number 28..... the row number 28.... and right click... that
whole row will get highlighted (just for ur info) and a box will open.....
click on insert... you'll get a new row between 27 and 28 without and
formatting whatsoever.... Hope it helps...

Thanks Ross. I know how to insert rows but what you say is incorrect, let me
explain. Row 28 has a top border line all the way across (say to cell H). Now
when I insert a new row above row 28, the newly inserted row (now 28) gets a
partial top border (up to cell C) and row 28 which is now row 29 is missing
some of the top border. Greatly appreciate anyones help.

hmmmm.... well when u insert the new row, like the way i emplained before...
u should be getting a small pain brush icon stuck onto the new row... that
lil thing which is the "insert options" asks for the following 3 things:
Format same as above, Format same as below and Clear formatting.... maybe
selecting one of the three would do the trick for u.... let me know....

Uncheck "extend data range formats and formulas".

Ross, the paintbrush thing is a good tip but I can't see any paintbrush here
- maybe it's because some of the cell at the beginning of the row are merged.
But I tried it in a different worksheet and neither of the three options in
the painbrush menu had any effect on the problem with the borders. Still, the
borders are messed up in the new and old row.

Gord, unfortunately this didn't solve the problem I have with the borders
when I am inserting a new row. The problem occurs when the row above which I
insert a new row contains borders that are different to the row above it,
then as soon as I insert a new row the borders of the new row and the row
above which it was inserted become all messed up: in each row only part of it.
