Help me Please! Reference cell working w subtotals
I am working with an extremely large amount of data. I have subtotaled my
data in order to condense it. Now I need the subtotal line to show the store number that is listed in the line above each subtotal line. How do I make the cell in the subtotal line reference the cell above and be able to apply that formula to all of the subtotaled lines when my outline is collapsed. I do not want to copy an paste each of the cells. |

How about an alternative.
Delete the subtotals and use data|Pivottable. You'll be able to get the summary pretty quickly. If you've never used pivottables, here are a few links: Debra Dalgleish's pictures at Jon Peltier's site: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Pivots/pivottables.htm And Debra's own site: http://www.contextures.com/xlPivot01.html John Walkenbach also has some at: http://j-walk.com/ss/excel/files/general.htm (look for Tony Gwynn's Hit Database) Chip Pearson keeps Harald Staff's notes at: http://www.cpearson.com/excel/pivots.htm MS has some at (xl2000 and xl2002): http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/XCrtPiv.aspx http://office.microsoft.com/assistan...lconPT101.aspx Crystal wrote: I am working with an extremely large amount of data. Thank you for your prompt reply Dave. However When I tried to use the info in
the pivot tables I did not get the result I was looking for. It is possible that I am just not familiar enough with pivot tables, but i have all of the rest of my data organized into subtotals and it would be sooo much easier if anyone knows a formula to make a cell refernce the cell directly above it.
