Excel v. 2000 won't auto-open later version files

When I double click on a newer version XLS file, my v 2000 starts but no file
loads. I have to use the v.2000 File/Open menu to search for the file and
load it. Is there an upgrade to obviate this step?

Comments much appreciated.

Usually this means you have Ignore Other Applications selected under Tools,
Options, General.

Jim:
As we say in Australia, "yer blood's worth bottling!"
That's an accolade; an expression of high praise.

But what a commentary on the arcane rules of MS. Whoever would have presumed
newer versions of Excel counted as "other applications"?

Many thanks, Jim
