I don't believe there is an Excel 2008. But with regard to 2007, you would
have to, within 2007, save the file as an .xls file (97-2003)

Excel 2008 is the new Mac version (I think the controversy about it was that
it removed VBA; don't know for sure as I'm a PC guy).

I don't have 2007 for testing but AFAIK you need the Pack to open a 2007
workbook in 2003 or earlier.

Don't what features are preserved.......browsing through the links on that page
could provide a few answers.
