Insert row/column error "Cannot shift object off sheet"

When I try and insert either a row or column into a my spread sheet the above
error message appears. I have tried pressing CTRL down arrow and CTRL right
arrow to see where excel 'thinks' I have my last data as per recommendations
on other queries and it skips to the very end so obviously that much is true,
however when I proceed to DELETE all rows till the end the error message
still occurs. A quick check with CTRL down arrow confirms that my data 50
lines down is the last information and yet it still won't let me insert.
Furthermore, when I save and reopen again the worksheet defaults back to
believing I have info in the final row and column! I have no comments or
filters or have I tried to hide or unhide anything. UUURGH! Any clever people
have any suggestions?

Insert row/column error "Cannot shift object off sheet"

Are you hiding any rows or columns? Are there any shapes on the sheet?
Shapes may get shifted off to the edges of the sheet without affecting the
"last used" row and column. Also look for comments, which are generally
hidden, but often give rise to this warning.
