I have set up a spreadsheet where a cell on the far right determines the
largest bid (number) in a range of cells the the left. [=LARGE(D7:U7,1)] I
also want to display the name of the bidder (always on the row above that
largest number. In this case row "E".

How can I do that?

Let's assume the names are in row 1, D1:U1

Try this:

=INDEX(D$1:U$1,MATCH(MAX(D7:U7),D7:U7,0))

Try:

=INDEX(D6:U6,MATCH(MAX(D7:U7),D7:U7))

This will return the first name if there is a tie for the highest bid. if
you want to go on and get the 2nd highest etc hten use your Large() function
inplace of the MAX() function.
