Selecting too many cells

When I click on a cell in Excel 2007 several cells get selected. This is
freaking me out.

Try hitting the F8 key.

F8 is the toggle to extend the selection.

If that doesn't help, try gently banging on your mouse buttons--including the
wheel mouse button.

Nope, no help.

Maybe a little further explaination will help.

When I left click a cell to select it for editing, I actually get several
cells selected. Or, if I try to drag and fill, it fills way more cells than
I try to select.
