Differences - Microsoft Works vs. Excel

What are the [main] differences between Microsoft Works and Microsoft Excel
applications?
If an individual can effectively manuever and use Works, should they be able
to do the same in Excel?
What are the main challenges to the user in trying to switch between the
applications?
