Microsoft Excel 2003 Database
 
I wish set up an excel 2003 database with respect to an hotel booking system.

This will store information about the guests such as name, reservation dates
, tariffs, credit card information etc.
It must :-

1. record this information accurately.

2. Retrieve any part or all of this information by a suitable search sequence.

3. the information must be recorded without to much duplication.

I think you would be better off using Access, as this gives more
security than Excel - important if you are planning to store credit
card numbers and other personal details.

You will need to have a clear idea at the outset of what you want to
achieve with the database, i.e. what you want to get out of it.

Flynne,

In the first row of the sheet, enter the titles for the data that you wish to record into separate
cells, starting in column A.

Then, when you want to enter new data, select any cell in your data base and use Data / Form....
and press "New". Then fill out as much or as little as you need.

You can retrieve records that meet certain criteria by pressing the Criteria button and filling in
part of what you are looking for in the correct field(s) and pressing Find Next or Find Previous, -
or you can apply data filters and use those.

Any accuracy / duplication issues are solely due to the user's skill or lack thereof.

Flynne,

Don't use Excel for this. You're gonna need multiple tables with relationships between
them, input forms, printed reports, lookups (queries), etc., and Excel, though you can do it
if you have a big bat to keep hitting yourself on the head with as you work on it, can do
it, it's way better with Access, for about a million reasons. Don't use Excel for this.
Excel is a great tool. But not for this.

Oh, and in case I forgot to say, don't use Excel for this.

Or get a big bat.
