Editting xml format sheets stored in database.
 

I have a large number of fields in a database that contain the results of
saving xls files in xml format (on a web server). I want to be able to do two
things:

1) When the browser application wants one of those 'files', send an
HTTPRequest to the server, have it extract the appropriate field and send the
contents back such that it invokes Excel. At this point the client would make
updates to the content.

2) Allow the client to 'save' the sheet by having the xml content extracted
and transmit it back to the server (via HTTPRequest) so that it can be stored
back into the database.

I can handle the database activities and the HTTPRequest requirements, but I
have no idea how to put out the xml structure when the client does their
'save'!!
