fractions turn into dates when pasting in excel 2003

when pasting data from a web page [ Metric/Inch Conversion] into excel,
fractions turn into dates. The same chart pastes perfectly into word but
wont copy from word into excel with out the fractions changing into dates.
and I cannot change the dates back to fractions ie 1/64 turns into Jan-64
which converts to 23377
Thanking you in advance

Hi
If you change cell format to text in excel and then copy from word and
select pastespecial and as text when pasting
seems to work for me

it does paste into word with NO problems and for now I have the table in word

I would like to know how to overcome this in the future

What does work is formatting excel as text then from word pasting special as
text [as was suggested by tina] buit why doesnt it work directly into excel ??

Hi
Eddie
I don't know why formatting to text does not work but if you save excel
spreadsheet as text document then pastespecial as text save file reopen as
text delimiter tick tab space and select next fractions column to text
afterwards save as .xls file though probably quicker to copy from word
