I am trying to create a document that others can fill in without altering the

Pretty difficult to fill in cells without altering the original workbook.
I would create a Template then let users do their filling in on a workbook based upon that Template. The Template remains untouched. See Help on Templates. Use Format/ Cells/ Protection to fix which cells are locked.
