Removing "read only"
Hi,
For some reason I can't remove the "read only" from one of my Excel folders. I go into the Properties and remove the check in "read only" but when I go back, the "read only" box is still checked. Am I doing something wrong? The folder has to be accessible to a team of people who have to be able to make changes, so the "read only" is really messing things up. Thanks, Marta |
Removing "read only"
That box is only used to Set or Clear "Read-Only" on the files
contained in the folder, the "greyed check" you see means nothing related to the folder itself. If you are having trouble with read only when you open the files, you may have a permissions issue with the folder. You say "team" of people, I would suggest you check or have the system admin. set the permissions to said folder to READ/WRITE for the necessary people. Removing "read only"
Hi Bob,
I need the people to access the file contained in that folder. When I open it on my computer (I created the folder and the file), it shows up fine, but when one of the people who have access to that particular drive and all files and folders contained in it, it opens up as a "read only". I've created other files/folders before and it never seemed to be a problem. I don't think I did anything differently this time around but somehow the files opens up "read only" and I can't remove it. Then they haven't been given Read/Write permission to that location. You
don't say what computer the folder resides on but the permissions on the folder need to be corrected for you to have them access it the way you want. Please look up "folder permissions" in Windows Help to see what you need to do to set it correctly. Marta wrote: Hi Bob, I need the people to access the file contained in that folder.
