Default Opening files from HTTP - authenticated session

Hi there,

Bit of an unusual question here and it may have been posted on the wrong
board so please feel free to move if necessary :-). The query relates to MS
Excel 2003.

I often open files from an HTTP location by clicking File - Open and then
in the textbox at the boottom manually typing http://servername/filename.xls
and then clicking Open.

Now, the first time you open an instance of Excel and do the above you get a
Log On dialog box asking for a username and password for the server that
hosts the HTTP and the file. This is fine, and Excel (or is it Windows?)
seems to remember these credentials so whenever you try to open something
from the same location again (in the same instance/session) of Excel you
don't have to enter a username/password again.

My question is whether or not there is a way to see what servers a given
instance of Excel is authenticated on? Or is it a Windows thing? If it's
Windows then is there any way of checking if you have already authenticated
on a given server or which servers you are authenticated on already. I'd
quite like to do this checking (either for Excel or Windows) within VBA - not
asking too much then!

Lastly is there anyway of passing the username/password to the dialog box
without using sendkeys (if that would even work)?

I guess it's pretty obvious that my knowledge of this is a little sketchy.
I'm generally pretty technically minded though so feel free to be so in any
replies...

Many thanks in advance for suggestions, links and answers...

Cheers,

Thinqer.
