My good 'ol formula for inserting text isn't working!!

Hi all,

Previously, I obtained this formula from someone on this site and it worked
fine. Now, I'm having problems:

Im trying to insert the words €śfor the purposes of€ť in front of the name of
everyone in the G. I did this successfully before by creating a spare
column. I used the formula =€ťassignee of €ś&G2 and then copied down. This
time, no go. It just displays the formula in each cell of the column. Any
advice? Thanks!

David,

I believe the cells are formatted as Text. Change them to General before
entering the formula.

It sounds like the cell is formatted as text. With the cell selected, click
on Format | Cell | Number tab and choose General, then click OK. Then
double-click the cell as if to edit it and press <Enter, to cause the
format change to take effect. Then you will be able to copy the cell down.

Hope this helps.

You've presumably got the cells formatted as Text. Format as General, then
re-enter the formula.
