This is a relatively new problem (last couple of days). I've had no new
software or patches installed, but whenever I double click on an Excel file to open it, Excel will open, but the workbook that I double-clicked fails to open. Also, from Outlook, I must save the file to disk before opening it using Excel's File-Open menu item. Any ideas? -- Don''t forget to rate the post if it was helpful! email address is invalid Please reply to newsgroup only. |

Click Tools, Options, General, UNcheck "Ignore other applications"
try it again. Dale Fye wrote: This is a relatively new problem (last couple of days). Sometimes one of these works when you're having trouble with double clicking on
the file in windows explorer: Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it) --- or --- Close Excel and Windows Start Button|Run excel /unregserver then Windows Start Button|Run excel /regserver The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets some of the windows registry to excel's factory defaults. Maybe one of these will work for you. Dale Fye wrote: This is a relatively new problem (last couple of days). I had "Ignore other applications" checked so I could have two instances of
Excel (side-by-side) working. I could swear that until recently, that worked, and still allowed me to double-click to open a file. I also tried the registration stuff but that didn't do anything that unchecking the "Ignore other apps" had not already accomplished. Thanks to both of you. -- Don''t forget to rate the post if it was helpful! email address is invalid Please reply to newsgroup only. I had the same problem start yesterday. I tried everything above and they
didn't work. I then started playing. I finally got it corrected. Go to; tools/options/transitions change Save Excel files as: to Microsoft Excel 97 - Excel 2003& 5.0/95 Workbook Hope it works for you too |
