I have a conditionally formatted cell which is green. How would I instruct

Color Match Adjacent Cell
Use Formula Is, rather than Cell Value Is, in your Conditional Formatting.
Specify an appropriate formula using the value in the previous cell, if that's what you want to use to determine the colour of both cells.
