Shared workbook protection
Good evening, This is my first attempt at merging a shared workbook. What I have read is that I create a master and save it to several unique named workbook to be distributed on a shared folder. I can then open the master and merge the other sheets one at a time until I have merged all of the books. Can I protect the sheets so that some of the data can not be changed and allow the users to add/change only certain cells? If so how is this done? I have tried it here on my pc with multiple files and have overwritten some of the data on purpose. I thought it was to notify you before making changes. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks lomax |
I think your question is: how do I protect some cells while allowing others
to be edited? Cell protection is a two stage process. Step one is to remove the "locked" protection format from the cells you want to allow changes to. By default all cells have locked protection format. Select the cells you want to unlock and then open the Format, Cells, Protection dialog box and uncheck Locked*. Once the appropriate cells are unlocked step two is to turn sheet protection on via Tools, Protection, Protect Sheet. *If you have Excel 2002 or 2003 it would be more direct to display the Protection toolbar and use the first toolbutton "Lock Cell" to unlock cells. -- Jim Rech Excel MVP "zeek" wrote in message news:3T6vd.417$Tf5.211@lakeread03... | | | Good evening, | | | | | | This is my first attempt at merging a shared workbook.
