sorting and truncating zero problem- ajit reg.

I have copied and pasted a HTML type report in excel in which I want the
data to be sorted on BSR Code columns (BSR - Bank Branch codes). Most of BSR
codes starts from 2/3 zeroes which gets vanished when copied in excel.
Secondly, the column having assessee names have more than one record belong
to it hence the assessee's name is not replicated (as given below) and hence
creates problem in sorting. The file has 4339 rows of records and can not be
counted manually. Pl. help.

Sr.No. Assessee Code Assessee Name BSR Code Amount
1 AAACH1115X Oriental Ship 00025348 525458.00

453566.00

456687.50
2 AAACH5858M A-1 Shares 00587855 100000.00

525478.75

Leading zeroes in numbers are meaningless in Excel. However, if you format
the cells as text before pasting, Excel will interpret the BSR code as text
and maintain the leading zeroes. As far as the replication problem is
concerned, I don't follow you.

I meant format the cells where the BSR code will go as text. You do not have
to format all cells as text.
