Saving an Excel 2007 spreadsheet in Works format

I'm using Office 2007 and want to send a spreadsheet to somebody who only has
MS Works. I can't see any .wks option in the 'Save as' list. I've tried
saving it in the Excel 97-2003 format but it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Excel Viewer 2003 would work if all you want the recipient to do is view it.

To use the spreadsheet they can download and install the free open source
program OpenOffice.

Excel and Works do not share any common file formats, as far as I know. I
tried running Works to see (it came bundled on this computer), but
unfortunately it appears that the Office 2007 beta trashed some of Works'
DLLs, and I have no way to reinstall Works on this machine.

Many thanks - I hope that this doesn't cause you a problem in the future..
In the end I saved the file in 97 - 2003 format and the user went into Works
and opened the document as an xls file. This seems to work.

Thanks for the thought but the recipient does need to modify it. In the end
I saved the file in 97 - 2003 format and the user went into Works and opened
the document as an xls file. This seems to work.

I guess it doesn't cause me any trouble. I'd installed the 2007 beta a year
and a half ago, and noticed today that (a) I had Works installed and (b)
Works didn't work. Since I haven't needed Works since I bought this
computer, I've uninstalled it for good. I did learn from your response to
Bob that Works can interpret Excel files.
